According to Techmaniacs, Apple plans to introduce eSIM-only models in Europe starting with the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max this fall. This marks a significant shift for the European market, where physical SIM cards remain the standard.
iPhone 18 Series Launch Strategy
Apple is reportedly splitting the iPhone 18 series into two separate launches. The Pro models will arrive in September following Apple's traditional timeline, while the standard iPhone 18 and the rumored iPhone Air successor face delays until early 2027.
This staggered approach allows Apple to focus its initial production on the premium Pro variants while giving the company more time to refine the base models.
Battery Capacity Benefits
One key advantage of ditching physical SIM cards is extra internal space. The report claims the iPhone 18 Pro Max will pack a 5,100 to 5,200mAh battery as a direct result of this change. That's a notable increase from previous models and should provide longer usage times between charges.
