Samsung is preparing to launch its next flagship lineup at the upcoming Galaxy Unpacked event in San Francisco. The Galaxy S26 Ultra sits at the top of this new series, and fresh details about its front-facing camera have surfaced just days before the official reveal.

According to reliable tipster Ice Universe, the Galaxy S26 Ultra will ship with an upgraded selfie camera. The device keeps the same 12MP resolution found on the Galaxy S25 Ultra, but swaps out the underlying sensor hardware. This marks a notable shift in Samsung's approach to front-facing camera technology.

The biggest change involves the sensor supplier. Samsung plans to replace its own ISOCELL 3LU with a Sony-made alternative. Most core specifications will stay identical, including the 1/3.2-inch sensor size, 1.12µm pixel dimensions, and f/2.2 aperture. These specs suggest Samsung is prioritizing sensor quality over raw specification bumps.

One practical improvement users will notice is the wider field of view. The front camera now covers 85 degrees, up from previous models. This change explains why the hole-punch cutout appears slightly larger than the one on the S25 Ultra. The wider angle should help when capturing group selfies or video calls.

It remains unclear exactly how the Sony sensor will improve image quality compared to Samsung's in-house solution. The company has traditionally used its own ISOCELL sensors for front-facing cameras, making this switch particularly interesting for camera enthusiasts. We will learn more about real-world performance when Samsung officially unveils the Galaxy S26 series next week.
