Google has officially introduced Personal Intelligence for its Gemini AI platform. This new opt-in feature allows the assistant to securely integrate information from various Google services, including Gmail, YouTube, Google Search, and Google Photos, to provide context-aware and tailored responses.
Availability and Access
The update is currently rolling out to Google AI Pro and AI Ultra subscribers in the United States. It is compatible with Gemini across the web, Android, and iOS devices. To enable the feature, users can navigate to the Gemini settings and select Personal Intelligence to choose which apps to connect.
Enhanced Personalization
The primary benefit of Personal Intelligence is its ability to retrieve specific details from personal items—such as emails or photos—to answer precise queries. Google highlights that the system works across text, images, and video content to deliver unique answers based on the user's existing data.
Privacy and Security
Security is a key focus of this update. Google states that because the data is already stored securely within its ecosystem, it does not need to be sent to external servers for processing. Users can also utilize temporary chats for non-personalized interactions.
Furthermore, Google clarified that Gemini will not be trained directly on private Gmail inboxes or Google Photos. Instead, the model uses limited information, like specific prompts and responses, to improve functionality while respecting user privacy regarding sensitive topics like health.
