Honor is preparing to bring its experimental Robot Phone to market later this year. The device, which first appeared as a concept, has now received a concrete launch window according to industry sources. This unique smartphone features a built-in three-axis gimbal system for the main camera, a first for the mobile industry.
The Chinese manufacturer has reportedly scheduled the Robot Phone release for the third quarter of 2025. This places the launch between July and September, giving Honor several months to refine the technology. Early prototypes shown at MWC earlier this year demonstrated limited functionality, suggesting the company is still developing core features.

What makes this device particularly interesting is Honor's partnership with Arri, the legendary German manufacturer of motion picture equipment. The collaboration will debut on the Robot Phone, bringing professional-grade video recording capabilities to a smartphone form factor. The combination of Arri's cinema expertise and the phone's mechanical gimbal stabilization could create a compelling alternative for content creators.
The gimbal system addresses a common pain point in mobile videography. While software stabilization has improved significantly, mechanical stabilization offers superior results for action shots and low-light recording. The three-axis design allows the camera module to move independently from the phone body, compensating for hand shake and movement.
Honor appears to be positioning this device against Apple's iPhone lineup, specifically targeting users who prioritize video quality. The company hopes the Arri partnership and gimbal hardware will sway professional creators who currently rely on iPhones for mobile content production.
Technical specifications remain scarce. Honor has only demonstrated basic functionality so far, and the prototypes shown publicly were clearly early development units. The September timeframe seems more realistic than July given the current state of the hardware.
