The iPhone Fold is rumored to launch later this year, marking Apple's first official entry into the foldable smartphone market. Leaked design mockups suggest a unique form factor that distinguishes it from current competitors. Specifically, the device appears much wider when folded and opens directly into landscape mode.

When unfolded, the display features a rectangular aspect ratio, offering a broader view than the more square-shaped screens of similar devices. For instance, the Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold, shown alongside the mockup, behaves more like a 10-inch tablet due to its dual-folding mechanism, while the Apple design focuses on a wider single-fold footprint.

Compared to the Galaxy Z Fold7, the iPhone Fold mockup is shorter but significantly wider. This landscape-first approach results in a very different ergonomic experience. Even when placed next to devices like the Huawei Pura X, which is a flip-style foldable with a wide aspect ratio, the iPhone mockup stands out for its unique proportions and folding direction.

The distinctive wide-screen design could influence the entire industry. Reports suggest that brands like Samsung and Oppo are already considering similar wider form factors for future releases to compete with Apple’s vision for foldable technology.
