Global Launch of ChatGPT Go
OpenAI has officially expanded its budget-friendly subscription, ChatGPT Go, to all markets where its services are available. Originally launched in India last August, the tier is now live in over 170 countries, including the United States.
In the US, ChatGPT Go is priced at $8 per month. This new option offers a middle ground for users who want more features than the free version but don't require the advanced capabilities of ChatGPT Plus ($20/month) or the Pro plan ($200/month).
Introduction of Advertisements
Alongside the global expansion, OpenAI announced that it will begin testing advertisements in the United States in the coming weeks. These tests will specifically target logged-in adult users on the Free and Go subscription tiers. Premium tiers, such as Plus, Pro, Business, and Enterprise, will continue to provide an ad-free experience.
The company has stated that these advertisements will be clearly labeled and physically separated from organic AI responses. Importantly, OpenAI emphasized that ads will not influence the chatbot’s answers and that user conversations will remain private and inaccessible to advertisers.
How Ads Will Appear
The proposed format involves displaying sponsored content at the bottom of a ChatGPT response when a relevant product or service matches the context of the conversation. In some instances, users may be able to interact directly with the ad to ask follow-up questions regarding a potential purchase.
OpenAI aims to build a diverse revenue model to help make advanced intelligence more accessible to a wider audience while maintaining user trust and software integrity.
