Samsung has officially revealed the Galaxy S26 and Galaxy S26+, marking a significant shift in strategy. While previous years brought modest hardware changes, this generation puts software and artificial intelligence front and center. The hardware team focused on specific improvements rather than wholesale redesigns.

Display and Battery Upgrades

The standard Galaxy S26 now features a 6.3-inch display, up from 6.2 inches on the S25. It keeps the same 1080p+ LTPO OLED panel with 1-120Hz adaptive refresh rate. The larger screen fits into a nearly identical body measuring 149.6 x 71.7 x 7.2mm. Weight increased slightly to 167g, just 5g more than the previous model.

Battery capacity received a welcome boost to 4,300mAh, up from 4,000mAh. This should translate to noticeably better endurance during daily use. However, charging speeds remain unchanged at 25W wired and 15W wireless, which lags behind competitors.

The Galaxy S26+ sticks with its 6.7-inch 1440p+ LTPO display and 4,900mAh battery. Dimensions and weight match the S25+ exactly. It does get a minor wireless charging bump to 20W, while wired charging stays at 45W.

Chipset Strategy: Two Different Processors

Samsung continues its dual-chipset approach. The Galaxy S26 and S26+ use the Exynos 2600 in most regions. North America, China, and Japan get the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy instead.

Both chips promise substantial performance gains. Samsung claims 19% faster CPU performance, 24% better GPU output, and 39% quicker NPU processing compared to the S25 series. AI tasks see the biggest improvements. Voice commands now process twice as fast. Transcribing calls and using AI Eraser take half the time.

Storage and Memory Configuration

Both models now start at 256GB storage, finally ditching the 128GB base option. 512GB variants are available for users needing more space. RAM stays fixed at 12GB across all configurations.

AI Features Take Center Stage

The Galaxy S26 series emphasizes agentic AI capabilities throughout One UI. Now Nudge reminds you of previous commitments during conversations and suggests relevant photos to share. Now Brief taps into the Personal Data Engine, pulling information from notifications and messages to automatically detect appointments you haven't manually added.

Screenshots get smarter organization. The system automatically sorts them into eight categories: Shopping, Social media, Coupon, Boarding pass, Events, Locations, Barcode plus QR code, and Chats. The document scanner now preserves formatting and images, not just text.

Call Screening acts as a spam filter for unwanted calls. It answers, identifies the caller, and displays a real-time transcription. Audio Eraser isolates voices and reduces background noise, now working with third-party apps like YouTube, Netflix, and Instagram.

Camera Hardware Stays Familiar

Both phones carry over the same triple camera setup from last year. The 50MP main sensor features 1.0µm pixels with an f/1.8 lens and optical stabilization. A 10MP telephoto provides 3x optical zoom, while the 12MP ultra-wide uses 1.4µm pixels at f/2.2.

New AI processing enhances video capabilities. Auto Framing crops 8K footage in real-time to output perfectly-framed 4K video. Super Steady Video offers 360-degree horizontal lock, keeping the horizon level regardless of phone orientation. Selfies benefit from an improved AI ISP with Object-Aware Engine.
