vivo gave attendees at Mobile World Congress a first look at its upcoming camera flagship, the X300 Ultra. This wasn't an official product launch but rather a preview of what's coming later this year. The big news here is that vivo confirmed the X300 Ultra will launch outside China, marking the first time an Ultra-branded vivo phone gets a global release.

New ZEISS Telephoto Extender Gen2 Ultra

The highlight of vivo's showcase was the all-new teleconverter system. The ZEISS Telephoto Extender Gen2 Ultra delivers an industry-leading 400mm equivalent focal range, doubling what last year's vivo X200 Ultra Photography kit offered. This translates to 17x optical zoom capability right out of the box.

With in-sensor zoom cropping, the combined system can reach up to 800mm equivalent. vivo claims the setup supports full 200MP optical output and maintains image quality even when pushing to a 1600mm digital crop. These numbers put the X300 Ultra in direct competition with dedicated bridge cameras.

Camera Cage for Video Creators

Beyond still photography, vivo announced a Camera Cage accessory that turns the X300 Ultra into a portable video rig. The cage includes multiple mounting points for accessories like external flashes, cooling fans, and tripods. Physical shutter buttons and quick-release ports round out the feature set for content creators who need quick access to controls.

Rumored Camera Specifications

While vivo kept quiet about the actual camera hardware inside the phone itself, recent leaks suggest impressive specs. The main camera reportedly uses Sony's LYT901 sensor at 200MP resolution. A second 200MP sensor from Samsung, designated HPB, should handle periscope telephoto duties.

The ultrawide lens is said to be a 50MP Sony LYT828 unit, complemented by a multispectral sensor for improved color accuracy. If these specs prove accurate, the X300 Ultra could set new standards for smartphone photography when it officially launches.
